1950-59
After the World War II, Dr. HOSHINO Kanou, who was a specialist of soil mechanics and pavement engineering, came to the Institute of Industrial Science (IIS), The University of Tokyo in 1953 and started his career in traffic engineering to respond to the social needs for the rapid motorization. As one of the leading pioneers at that time, he had contributed to the research field of traffic engineering in Japan.
第二次世界大戦後の1953年、新生東京大学の生産技術研究所・助教授として勤務していた星埜和（ほしの かのう）先生は、 当初は土質工学・舗装工学を専門としていたが、急速なモータリゼーションの進展とともに道路交通工学の重要性を意識するようになる。 星埜先生は、日本における交通工学黎明期の草分け的存在の研究者として活躍した。
1960-69
In 1964, Dr. KOSHI Masaki, who had been an official of the Ministry of Construction (currently the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism) in Japan, came to the IIS as a lecturer, and a new laboratory, Hoshino and Koshi Laboratory, started.
1964年、当時の建設省土木研究所から講師として越正毅（こし まさき）先生が赴任し、星埜・越研究室となる。
1970-79
Dr. HOSHINO retired in 1971. After his retirement, Dr. KOSHI led the Traffic Engineering Laboratory in IIS and was promoted to professor in 1978.
1971年、星埜先生が退官。越研究室として当研究所の交通工学の研究室を主宰する。 1978年、越先生が教授に昇任。
1980-89
Dr. KASHIMA Shigeru, Dr. BRUEHL Friedemann, and Dr. KATAKURA Masahiko joined the Traffic Engineering Laboratory as a lecturer or associate professor. In 1987, Dr. KUWAHARA Masao joined the Laboratory as an associate professor, and Koshi and Kuwahara Laboratory newly started.
鹿島茂（かしま しげる）先生、Dr. BRUEHL Friedemann、片倉正彦（かたくら まさひこ）先生を それぞれ講師・助教授として迎える。 1987年、桑原雅夫（くわはら まさお）先生を助教授として迎え、越・桑原研究室となる。
1990-99
In 1990, Dr. KOSHI moved to the Faculty of Engineering, The University of Tokyo. Dr. KUWAHARA succeeded the Laboratory.
1990年、越先生が東京大学工学部へ転出。桑原先生が当研究所の交通工学の研究室を主宰する。
2000-09
Dr. KUWAHARA was promoted to professor. Dr. TANAKA Shinji, who had gotten Ph.D. supervised by Dr. KUWAHARA, joined the Laboratory as a lecturer, and the Laboratory restarted as Kuwahara and Tanaka Laboratory.
2000年、桑原先生が教授に昇任。 2007年、田中伸治（たなか しんじ）先生を講師として迎え、桑原・田中研究室となる。
2010-14
Dr. KUWAHARA moved to Tohoku University, and Tanaka Laboratory succeeded the Traffic Engineering Laboratory. Dr. OGUCHI Takashi, who had gotten Ph.D. supervised by Dr. KOSHI and had been a professor of Tokyo Metropolitan University, joined the Traffic Engineering Laboratory in IIS as a professor, and Oguchi and Tanaka Laboratory newly started. Dr. TANAKA moved to Yokohama National University, and Oguchi Laboratory succeeded the Traffic Engineering Laboratory. Dr. IRYO Miho, who had gotten Ph.D. suprevised by Dr. KUWAHARA, joined the Laboratory as a lecturer, and the Laboratory restarted as Oguchi and Iryo Laboratory. Dr. WADA Kentaro joined the Laboratory as a Research Associate.
2010年、桑原先生が東北大学へ転出し、田中研究室となる。 2011年、大口敬（おおぐち たかし）先生を教授として迎え、大口・田中研究室となる。 2012年、田中先生が横浜国立大学へ転出し、大口研究室となる。 2013年、井料美帆（いりょう みほ）先生を講師として迎え、大口・井料研究室となる。 2014年、和田健太郎（わだ けんたろう）先生が助教として着任。
2015-
Dr. IRYO was promoted as Associate Professor. Dr. IRYO moved to Nagoya University and the name of the Laboratory become Oguchi Laboratory again. Dr. WADA promoted to Associate Professor in University of Tsukuba. Dr. TORIUMI Azusa joined the Laboratory as a Research Associate.
2015年、井料先生が准教授に昇任。 2017年、井料先生が名古屋大学へ転出し、再び大口研究室となる。 2019年、和田先生が准教授として筑波大学へ転出。 2019年、鳥海梓（とりうみ あずさ）先生が助教として着任。
